CJ-7 / Rubicon Mash Up

The latest.

I had the CJ-7 kit for many years but it just didn’t look right to me- sort of wimpy in stock trim. So it sat until I saw the Rubicon kit. Then the mash up began.

I wanted to go for a Halloween themed build, so I decided on the Hemi orange and black color combo. A fellow builder did the “scary face” decals for me that are on the body and seats, and the “Jack O” vanity plates are a Halloween reference, since the Jeep reminds me of a jack-o-lantern.

I married the CJ body to the Rubicon chassis and suspension. I had to remove the molded in engine bottom from the chassis so I could tuck a parts box Hemi between the fenders.

Another fellow builder donated a spare set of Rubicon wheels and tires so I could mount the rear spare. I also used the Rubicon roll bars, lights, front bumper and fender flares. I ended up scratch built the rear bumper out of three styrene rods and square tubing. I added some photo-etched seat belts and a metal tube for a steering column.

The Jeep is completely wired and plumbed. I used craft wire and rubber hose for the fuel and brake lines. Neither kit came with brakes, so I added photo etched brake calipers, along with some washers from my garage to mimic discs.

You never cease to amaze me with the level of detail. I love everything, except the body lift. The seats are awesome.

Thanks.

To each his own, I guess.

No worries.

Everyone has an opinion. Kind of like I think the stock CJ kit looks wimpy.
